Can Cross Cut Paper Shredders Perform Better Than Normal Paper Shredders

Posted by Jack Bennington | Identity Theft | Saturday 24 July 2010 8:14 am

We all know how important identity theft is, to find out that someone has gone through your garbage, took information such as your name, bank details and social security number and started to apply for various financial services or products. Then you get landed with the bill and no way to pay it or to prove what has happened! Here you will see how cross cut paper shredders work better than regular paper shredders to protect you from identity theft.

So as identity theft is becoming more and more popular and also as we’re becoming more aware of it and how it can affect us we have to protect ourselves and one of the ways we can do this is to shred any important documents we may want to throw away, we shred them, bin them and don’t give it another thought thinking that you are safe and protected.

Most people will buy the standard and usually cheapest shredder on the market which is known as the horizontal shredder and hope that this machine will protect and destroy our information helping us to keep our details safe from misuse. However the thieves that gain these horizontally shredded documents are in fact able to patch them back together again so how are we to combat this?

It’s unlikely that an identity thief would go to all this trouble but as people have become savvy against identity theft the thief may now not have a choice of garbage that’s been shredded against garbage that’s not been shredded but of garbage shredded adequately and garbage shredded extremely well.

The way that technology has helped us means that this newer type of shredder makes it so that it is almost impossible to piece the document back together again. These advances mean that you can now be one step ahead of the criminals and keep your information much safer once shredded.

So how does the cross cut shredder work? And how does it make our shredding better? Well using a two drum roller system that cuts the document into small diamond shaped pieces this means it is a lot harder to patch it all up, there are more pieces and they are cut into a less uniform shape than the horizontal strips.

You may think that this isn’t much of a difference but to the criminal or thief it most certainly is. By cutting into more and smaller pieces of odd shapes it makes it very hard indeed to try and piece that document back together again. The vast majority of thieves will be put off and not even bother trying so you’ll be far more protected from identity theft.

So even though someone could potentially get the pieces back into the shape of the original document because it is so time consuming and because the criminal will be put off then you are far more protected than someone who uses a standard horizontal shredding machine. Identity thieves know of these shredders and usually will not even attempt reconfiguring the pieces into the original document.

A person will locate the best cross cut paper shredder today when you see the wide selection that is available. Having the most effective cross cut shredder to protect your confidential information will keep your home or office safe at all times.

This Tax Season The Cyber Crooks Came Out Of The Woodwork

Posted by Mallory Megan | Identity Theft | Thursday 22 July 2010 4:29 am

Whenever tax season rolls around, the crooks seem to come out of the woodwork. This tax season was no different. Internal Revenue Service scams were spread around; the most popular one involved an email that appeared to be a legitimate email from the IRS. This email stated that this year, your tax refund can be available on your Visa or Mastercard. To transfer your refund, it directed you to a website that requested your credit card number, social security number, card verification value numbers, credit card expiration dates, filing status, amount shown on your tax return, and other personal information. In today’s day and age, it is my hope that nobody would give this kind of information to an unverified website merely because it looks authentic, but the few people who were duped are surely victims of identity theft and are now feeling the blowback from their fatal mistake.

When a website looks real and tries to steal important information from you, it is called phishing. A phishing example from the IRS was located on its web site, and it read very similarly to this clip: “We have calculated your financial activity for the year and have determined that you are currently eligible to receive a tax refund of $78.87. Kindly submit the tax refund request and allow us six to nine days so that we can process it. Get the form for your tax refund by clicking here.” The link will take you to a phishing website.

The Internal Revenue Service wanted taxpayers to be aware that they do not notify taxpayers of refunds, or any other payments that might be due by email. Instead of going to the link in the email, the IRS urged consumers to forward the email to its agency and to delete the original email from their email accounts.

Analysts tell us that IRS scams this year for the most part worked one of two ways. Crooks sent unsolicited emails that looked like they were coming from the Internal Revenue Service letting recipients know that they had refunds coming. To receive their refund, the potential victim had click on email links and provide needed information which would be utilized to steal their identity.

The second trick that was popular was an email pretending to be from the IRS Criminal Investigation Division telling the recipient that they are under investigation for false tax returns. If potential victims wanted to find out more about the complaints against them, they had to click on links in the email which contained Trojan horse codes. These codes contaminate computer hard drives in a way that con men can remotely access their computers and use them to send spam email among other things. Next tax season, or in between, if you receive an unsolicited email from the IRS, it urges you to forward them the email.

What Cross Cut Paper Shredders Will Get You The Most For Your Money?

Posted by Carl Novello | Identity Theft | Tuesday 20 July 2010 8:54 am

If you are someone with an at home business, or simply a person that often handles important documents in your house, then a paper shredder is essential for protecting your privacy. It is noteworthy to find out before you make your purchase which cross cut paper shredders give you the most for your money so that you don’t waste your dollars or your time on something that will not work so well.

How could you be a knowledgeable buyer if you don’t know what you are looking for? Most importantly, you need a machine that will get rid of your papers in a fast and timely manner. Of course, you are way too busy and important to sit back and wait for a little machine to finish its job already – you want to make sure that it knows how to move along and get going!

Secondly, you do not want anyone else to be able to understand what the document said once it is destroyed, which means that your shredder must effectively cut up your papers. All files must be destroyed so completely that the leftover remnants cannot be easily pieced back together.

It goes without saying that it is important that your new acquisition will last for a long while. As great and efficient as it is, a good machine is not a good purchase if it is always dying and requiring a replacement. Make sure that you buy something that comes with a significant warranty and will stand up to a nice number of files.

Now that you have some foundational information, here are some practical guides to the latest models.

Nowadays it is easy to find a cross-cut model, instead of the old version that simply shot back your paper in long, thin strips. This means that the machine works diagonally so that your documents will be completely impossible to put back together. This is a nice feature because you will feel totally safe throwing out all of your pieces in the same garbage can instead of running around putting half here and half there.

You should also look for a great feature called an “overheating prevention” method. On the older machines, when a person would work the model too hard by cramming in paper after paper, the shredder would sometimes simply stop working because the mechanism got too hot. The overheating prevention method forces the new machines to shut themselves down if they get too hot, so this will not happen.

Additionally, it is ideal if your acquisition can fit more than one piece of paper at a time. This is incredibly helpful if you often have large quantities of things to destroy. You can move the job along quickly without having to wait.

As long as you have checked off all of the above features, it is time to examine the price. When searching for which cross-cut paper shredders give you the most for your money, you should obviously not overlook this important aspect.

If you need a high ranked shredder, then the crosscut shredder will be sure to do the job right. The cross cut shredder will shred the critical papers and files with only a push of the button.
